Lives Transformed by Christ, The Year of Prayer at the Eucharist: Spetember 2006 - June 2007
What is the Year of Prayer at the Eucharist?
The Year of Prayer at the Eucharist is a yearlong Liturgical Catechesis process being undertaken by Holy Trinity Parish, beginning in September of 2006, ending June of 2007.  This is the second year of the Parish Year of Prayer.  The first (2005 – 2006) focused on efforts to enhance and grow the prayer life of the parish and the parishioners, particularly through aspects of Ignatian Prayer.  The purpose of this second year is formation through prayer at the Eucharist.
What is Liturgical Catechesis?
Liturgical Catechesis is a reflection on the liturgical action, prayer, and rituals of the community.  It is intended to lead to a greater understanding of the Eucharistic celebration, maturity of faith, and an awareness of how the liturgy transforms us in Christ.  Our efforts will take place within the context of the Liturgical Year, and lead to fuller participation by those assembled.

For many different reasons, the average parishioner who comes to the Eucharist each week does not see the connection between the liturgy and everyday life.  Liturgical Catechesis can greatly help parishioners to see this connection – to understand that liturgy itself is formative, to come to a knowledge of symbol and symbolic action as the language of faith, to believe that we are called to become what we have received in the Eucharist, and to live lives of mission and service.

When will this take place?
Once a month from September to June, we will feature special Liturgical Catechesis Days which will focus on some aspect of the celebration of the Eucharist.
What activities will support our Year of Prayer at the Eucharist?
  • Homilies at all Masses (on each designated Liturgical Catechesis Day)
  • Adult Education speakers after Masses on select days
  • Religious Education activities for youth based on the focus
  • Monthly “Teaching Masses”
  • The role Music as prayer in the Eucharistic celebration
  • The Greeting at Mass to include catechesis about certain parts of the Mass
  • Monthly and seasonal prayers for parish meetings
  • Formation of Liturgical ministers, catechists, etc. in prayer at the Eucharist
  • Web Q and A and bulletin Q and A
  • Web Site section on Year of Prayer: calendar, articles and information
  • Bulletin flyers/articles for weeks surrounding focus day
