Lives Transformed by Christ: The Year of Prayer at the Eucharist
In order to connect the Year of Prayer at the Eucharist to all aspects of parish life, we are providing a monthly prayer to be used at meetings.  This is for any committee meeting, any group meeting or any project which is taking place at the parish.  This prayer will change monthly to follow the "themes" of our Year of Prayer at the Eucharist.
Monthly Prayers 2006 – 2007
September October December January February March April May June

Leader:
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen.
Leader reads the opening:
We open our prayer today with a passage from Fulfilled in Your Hearing, the document that highlights the homily in the Sunday assembly.

“The preacher acts as a mediator, making connections between the real lives of people who believe in Jesus Christ but are not always sure what difference faith can make in the lives, and the God who calls us into ever deeper communion with himself and one another.”

This month we continue our parish Year of Prayer at the Eucharist.  We are spending time in prayer before meetings reflecting on the texts of the Eucharist.  This month’s theme is “Hearing God’s Word Transforms our Lives.”  We are being asked to reflect on “ What are the Scriptures saying to us as a community and what meaning does it have in my life and in the life of this community now.”

Please listen now to a short reading for reflection.

Another member of the group reads the following:
This reading is from the Gospel to St. Mark:  (Chapter 12:28b-34)

“The scribe said to Him, “Well said Teacher, all of these I have observed since my youth.  Jesus said to him, “you are lacking in one thing.  Go and sell what you have and give it to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven; then come follow me.”  At that statement, his face fell, and he went away sad, for he had many possessions.”  The Gospel of the Lord.  Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

All Pause for two minutes of reflection on this reading and the following question:
In pondering the man’s physical response, how does this scene speak to you?
How do we respond to the Lord’s call?
After the reflection time, ALL pray together:
Lord Jesus Christ, living bread come down from heaven,
in the Eucharist you give us the gift of yourself.
As we give you praise and thanks for this gift,
help us walk as your faithful pilgrims.

Just as the disciples did in the Gospel,
we implore you, O Lord,
teach us to pray!

May our prayer at the Eucharist
lift our hearts to you.
May our lives be transformed by this great gift
so that we may become the people you call us to be.

Give us your special grace
as we celebrate this Year of Prayer at the Eucharist
and grant us your peace,
we pray through your most holy name. Amen.
