Lives Transformed by Christ: The Year of Prayer at the Eucharist
In order to connect the Year of Prayer at the Eucharist to all aspects of parish life, we are providing a monthly prayer to be used at meetings.  This is for any committee meeting, any group meeting or any project which is taking place at the parish.  This prayer will change monthly to follow the "themes" of our Year of Prayer at the Eucharist.
Monthly Prayers 2006 – 2007
September October November January February March April May June

December
Leader:
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen.
Leader reads the opening:
We open our prayer today with a passage from Eucharistic Prayer III from the Sacramentary.

“Father you are holy indeed, and all creation rightly gives you praise.  All life, all holiness comes from you through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, by the working of the Holy Spirit.  From age to age you gather a people to yourself, so that from east to west a perfect offering may be made to the glory of your name.”

This month we continue our parish Year of Prayer at the Eucharist.  We are spending time in prayer before meetings reflecting on different aspects of the Eucharist.  This month’s theme asks us to focus on the Eucharistic Prayer.

A second reader:
Richard McCarron in The Eucharistic Prayer at Sunday Mass offers the following reflection:
“Our Eucharistic praying calls us back to our roots, back to an ancient time and distant place where the psalmist stands with lyre in hand.  We Christians have inherited from our Jewish forebears a way of praying and of being.  The fundamental dimensions of our prayer and our life are praise, thanksgiving and supplication.  A return to these roots can help us grasp what is at stake today in Christian eucharistic praying.1
McCarron, Richard. “The Eucharistic Prayer at Sunday Mass.” (Archdiocese of Chicago: Liturgical Training Publications: Chicago, IL, 1997. p 7)
All Pause for two minutes of reflection on this quote and the following question:
On hearing the Eucharistic Prayer prayed at Mass, what comes to mind for you?
How does this impact your faith journey, the faith journey of those around you?
After the reflection time, ALL pray together:
Lord Jesus Christ, living bread come down from heaven,
in the Eucharist you give us the gift of yourself.
As we give you praise and thanks for this gift,
help us walk as your faithful pilgrims.

Just as the disciples did in the Gospel,
we implore you, O Lord,
teach us to pray!

May our prayer at the Eucharist
lift our hearts to you.
May our lives be transformed by this great gift
so that we may become the people you call us to be.

Give us your special grace
as we celebrate this Year of Prayer at the Eucharist
and grant us your peace,
we pray through your most holy name. Amen.
