The Job Seekers' Ministry at Holy Trinity is a support
group for people who are unemployed primarily due to the
most recent economic downturn. The group has
been meeting weekly since January 2001 when our then pastor,
Fr. Bill Byron, S.J., took an interest in ministering to
those who were undergoing changes in careers and employment. His
book, Finding
Work without Losing Heart, is located on the
Holy Trinity website and has been a source of good practical
information for many of our parishioners looking for work.
The group has grown as the job market continues to be affected by a poor
economy. The
sessions are grounded in prayer, but also address practical
issues of resume
building, interviewing techniques and networking as part of the group's mission. Some
members of the group have been blessed with success in finding jobs, but still
others need your help. In one gospel story, Jesus invites Peter,
Andrew, James and John to follow him and be his disciples.
Many parishioners have already assisted in helping
our Job Seekers. They have donated resources to our library on how to find employment
and some have come to address the group and offered practical and technical information
on how to approach the current job market. We are indebted to their generosity
and welcome any other volunteers who are able to provide pertinent job searching
information.
