Responding to the particular needs of the separated, divorced, widowed and single adults, the de Chantal group offers pastoral support, spiritual, social, and community service activities to Catholics living in non-traditional families. The group helps its members and others to deal with the challenges they face personally, in their family and within the Church or society at large.
Founded in December 2001 within the Holy Trinity catholic community in Georgetown, the de Chantal group gathers together and embraces those members of the parish who are looking for spiritual and social support in an open and welcoming setting. The group operates under the pastoral care of the Jesuit community in Georgetown. It is placed under the aegis of St. Jane de Chantal, herself a wife, mother, widow, and spiritual leader as well as a spiritual friend of St. Francis de Sales and the founder of the Visitation order.
The de Chantal Singles and Single Again group aims primarily to:
-
Give its members a setting within the parish community in which they can pray together, support each other and feel comfortable with themselves and with others in the Church;
- Help its members lead a positive and joyful life within the parish community;
- Support its members with a view of achieving personal growth following the trauma of separation and loss;
- Provide its members with pastoral support and a program of social, spiritual and community service activities.
